Aloe Vera – The Most Powerful Skin Care Ingredient on Earth

Proven skin care benefits over thousands of years

What single plant with centuries of proven skin care effectiveness has multiple natural vitamins and 20 of the 22 amino acids required by humans?
And, not to mention, enzymes, minerals, fatty acids and other natural ingredients beneficial to the skin?

It’s the Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) plant – specifically the gel contained within its leaf. And Aloe vera may be the most powerful skin care ingredient on Earth.

When formulated together with other powerful ingredients (like certified organic high oleic sunflower oil) and used systematically in a properly designed skin care routine, the benefits are unbeatable.  Aloe vera is a very powerful skincare ingredient.

Ancient Power and Wisdom of Aloe Vera

“The Aloe vera plant has been known and used for centuries for its health, beauty, medicinal and skin care properties. The name Aloe vera derives from the Arabic word “Alloeh” meaning “shining bitter substance,” while “vera” in Latin means “true.” 2000 years ago, the Greek scientists regarded Aloe vera as the universal panacea. The Egyptians called Aloe “the plant of immortality.”

ALOE VERA: A SHORT REVIEW

Today, the Aloe vera plant has been used for various purposes in dermatology. It has always been the most powerful skincare ingredient on Earth.

History:

Aloe vera has been used for medicinal purposes in several cultures for millennia: Greece, Egypt, India, Mexico, Japan and China. Egyptian queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra used it as part of their regular beauty regimes. Alexander the Great, and Christopher Columbus used it to treat soldiers’ wounds.
The first reference to Aloe vera in English was a translation by John Goodyew in A.D. 1655 of Dioscorides’ Medical treatise De Materia Medica. By the early 1800s, Aloe vera was in use as a laxative in the United States, but in the mid-1930s, a turning point occurred when it was successfully used to treat chronic and severe radiation dermatitis.

Metrin Skincare Experience: Erin’s skin care  journey – from acne to healthy, glowing skin!

My skin balanced out and the breakouts that had plagued me since I was a teenager just stopped happening. After a few years, I realized that my complexion- which had formerly been a major source of insecurity- was now one of the first things people noticed about me. I felt confident that whatever came my way, my skin was taken care of. It might sound silly, but it was such a relief to me that I didn’t have to think about it anymore!
I’m 37 now, and like all the Metrin customers I used to read about as an employee- I constantly receive compliments about my skin, and it is a regular occurrence that someone tells me they can’t believe my age. I still get ID’d when I order a drink at a restaurant!!

ALOE VERA: A SHORT REVIEW

Ingredients:

“Up to the present date, a minimum of 160 important ingredients have been identified in the rich aloe vera leaves. Some experts surmise that the plant could contain as many as 300 to 400 life essential ingredients. Scientists agree in so far that it is not one single ingredient that accounts for the aloe vera’s healing effects but that it is a synergy effect of all combined ingredients. And this is exactly what makes the plant so very special: It contains a variety of essential properties that complement each other and combined have a powerful effect. The combined properties supply the human body with a wealth of healing substances.”

Ingredients of Aloe vera.

The compounds in the most powerful skincare ingredient on Earth:

Vitamins:
Vitamin A (beta-carotene), Vitamin C, and Vitamin E , which are all antioxidants, and Vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline. Antioxidants neutralizes free radicals that can damage the skin’s ability to renew itself, and helps the skin function at its best, making these vitamins the best anti-aging vitamins – all delivered in their natural form.

  • While Aloe vera already contains Vitamin C, Aloe vera can be used safely together with additional Vitamin C without irritating the skin as proven by the use of the moisturizers in Metrin Skincare System with also contain additional Vitamin C and E.
  • Aloe vera improves the absorption of both Vitamins C and E, Aloe is the only known supplement to increase both vitamins.

Amino Acids:
Aloe vera contains 20 of the 22 human required amino acids and 8 essential amino acids. While there are numerous health and skin care benefits of amino acids, amino acids in Aloe vera are known to reduce skin inflammation, help maintain normal cell growth, form collagen (reduces wrinkles) in collaboration with Vitamin C (which is contained in Aloe vera), and improve circulation, which aids in skin function and its natural glow. That’s one of the many reasons why Aloe vera is the most powerful skincare ingredient on Earth

Peptides, Oligopeptides and Amino Acids:

A peptide is a compound consisting of 2 or more amino acids. Oligopeptides have 10 or less amino acids in a compound. Though some skin care products are often marketed as containing ‘oligopeptides’, they don’t come close to the number of amino acids contained in Aloe vera. All skin care products in the Metrin Skincare System contain Aloe vera, designed to increase delivery of amino acids and nutrients in the Aloe vera through its carefully designed double cleansing method and skin care layering application of nourishment and protection.

Amino acids (oligopeptides) in water soluble form encased in lipid (like high oleic sunflower oil) helps increase its delivery to the skin using topical application of moisturizers containing Aloe vera with oils like the sunflower oil.

Enzymes:
Enzymes are catalysts that enable and moderate chemical processes. Some of the enzymes found in Aloe vera can help fight against free radicals and therefore promote antioxidant function. A total of 8 enzymes that work to breakdown sugars and fats, aiding in cellular function and skin renewal including the reduction of inflammation when applied to the skin topically.

Other compounds:
“It also contains salicylic acid that possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Lignin, an inert substance, when included in topical preparations, enhances penetrative effect of the other ingredients into the skin. Saponins that are the soapy substances form about 3% of the gel and have cleansing and antiseptic properties.” Top 4 Organic Ingredients that reduce wrinkles.

The Right Delivery Method Matters: Delivering Aloe Vera Benefits to the Skin

Just because a skin care product contains Aloe vera as its ingredient, does that mean your skin is getting the benefits of Aloe vera?

No.

Aloe vera is tremendously beneficial for the skin. Having the right skin care product with a proven, long term formulation that preserves the potency of Aloe vera is critical, but so is the sequence and method used in skin care routine to deliver Aloe vera to the skin. Aloe vera is the most powerful skincare ingredient on Earth, but it matters how you deliver it.

Here are a couple things that can affect the delivery of Aloe vera nutrients to your skin:

  1. Dead skin cells and other barriers on the skin. Cleansing and Exfoliation – the critical steps in delivering Aloe Vera to the skin
    • Especially as Aloe vera is water soluble, presence of excess dead skin cells that can absorb Aloe Vera nutrients and any dirt and oil on the surface of the skin can impede the delivery of nutrients to the skin.
    • Providing nourishment to dead skin cells on unexfoliated skin is a terrible waste.
    •  All good skin care starts with cleansed and gently exfoliated skin. The proven double cleansing method of the Metrin Skincare System is an excellent way to cleanse and gently exfoliate your skin without disrupting your skin’s protective acid mantle
    • Using the double cleansing method to soften dead skin cells followed by a lathering cleanser to lift dead skin cells for ease of removal (exfoliation) is effective in preparing your skin for efficient absorption of Aloe Vera, other nourishing ingredients and for improving the skin’s barrier function (moisture retention).
  2. Dosage
    • It’s a balance between quantity and frequency. Delivering Aloe vera and its nutrients to the skin frequently through skin care layering, and also through twice daily skin care routine not only increases the volume of Aloe vera nutrients delivered to the skin, but also its absorption and use by the skin. For example, it is so much better for your body to drink the recommended daily 8 cups of water throughout the day rather  than drinking all 8 cups at once.
  3. How Aloe vera is prepared and preserved.
    • Using fresh and raw Aloe gel might sound appealing but not practical at all. And, the nutrient volume and quality depends on the type of  extraction and preservation methods.
    • One of the best methods is to use flash or freeze drying technique which has high nutrient preservation quality.
    • The right product formulation matters. Encapsulating Aloe vera (and other nutrients) in carrier oils with high antioxidant properties like the certified organic, high oleic sunflower oil, for example, helps against premature loss of nutrients through oxidation.
  4. Certified Organic
    • This assures purity of Aloe vera that is sustainable and ensures that the sourcing is environmentally friendly.
